It's not every day we get to celebrate the arrival of a new decade! Years ending in 10 are always exciting, especially as electronic rhythms continue to evolve in step with the multiple changes transforming our society. But one thing remains unchanged: the readiness of Montrealers to have a good time and to celebrate big occasions to the max. This coming January 1 (and not the 31st!), the 4th edition of Resolution will be the perfect time for locals and visitors to kick up their heels to their hearts' content when Paul Van Dyk, Above & Beyond, Misstress Barbara, Second Sun, Uppercut and DJ Kal set the Bell Centre vibrating with shots of bass frequencies and masterly mixes.
More than 7,000 people are expected for the biggest party of the holiday season, which will begin on the evening of January 1 and continue until 10 o'clock the following morning. For thirteen consecutive hours the Bell Centre rink will metamorphose into an immense dancefloor, with sophisticated lighting and ultra-powerful sound equipment plunging participants into the enveloping atmosphere of a super-sized after-hours club. With the proverbial energy and the sex appeal of the Montreal crowd, all the elements are in place to make Resolution 2010 a night that will leave partyers positively transformed. This fourth edition is a presentation of Productions Playground, BPM Conference and Gillett Entertainment Group.
Paul Van Dyk (2 a.m. to 5 a.m.)
One of the most acclaimed producers and DJs on the planet, Paul Van Dyk has played a leading role in popularizing the trance-derived trends that dominate today's electronic scene. With "We Are One," the German prodigy – who was No. 1 on DJ Mag's Top 100 more than once – recently created the official piece for the celebrations marking the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall. Not surprisingly, PVD has a sound like a ton of bricks!
Above & Beyond (5 a.m. to 8: 30 a.m.)
Here's a trio whose name really fits: Jono, Tony and Paavo continue in their unstoppable ascent to infinity ... and beyond! Now occupying 4th spot on DJ Mag's Top 100, the British trio recently released volume 7 of their immensely popular series of mixed CDs Anjunabeats, from the name of their label now the international reference point in tech and trance. Prepare to be star-struck.
Misstress Barbara – DJ set (Midnight to 2 a.m.)
The uncontested queen of Montreal's DJs has more than one arrow in her quiver. Mixer emeritus and a producer hailed worldwide, Barbara recently unveiled her talents as a musician and singer on her first album of songs, titled I'm No Human. For Resolution she's back behind the turntables to deliver another of her breathtaking tech-house and electro flavored DJ sets.
Second Sun – Live (8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m.)
One of the more powerful live bands in electronic dance music, the duo Second Sun generates intense heat at every one of their sets. Discovered by Paul Van Dyk, with whom they' ve been frequent collaborators, Antoine and Adam have since climbed to the highest echelons of the international elite. The title of their latest release, "We Own the Night," is a perfect summary of their state of mind!
Uppercut (11 p.m. to midnight)
Conveying his House with an explosive strike force, Uppercut provides demonstrations of a formidable effectiveness wherever he performs – whether at mega-events or in the more intimate setting of Montreal clubs. A leading light on the Montreal scene, the resident of the famous after-hours Red Lite is regularly invited to perform far and wide as well. The sense of rhythm taken to its purest form of expression.
DJ Kal (9:30 p.m. to 11 p.m.)
An overlooked pioneer, DJ Kal played an essential role in the emergence of Montreal's techno and house scene in the mid-1990s. Resident at the famous club Opéra for more than eight years, the versatile DJ has also made his mark beyond our borders. And millions of viewers have discovered his productions in the "club" segments on the TV show Minuit Le Soir.
