Igloofest 2012: Spreads out for its 6th edition
Tuesday, November 15th 2011
Words: Igloofest

In January, the place to be is on the Quays of the Old Port of Montreal for the 6th edition of Igloofest! After hitting record turnout last season, Igloofest on the Quays will take place on a larger reconfigured site. The happening is also proud to announce Sapporo as its very first presenter and to reaffirm its collaboration with Solotech. All in all, 9 evenings among the season's coldest guaranteed to warm the heart of even the most militant on January 12-13-14, 19-20-21 & 26-27-28 of 2012!

The movement continues to creep

Every year Igloofest experiences a staggering surge of growth taking it from 4,000 to 59,000 spectators in just 5 years. Hence for the 6th edition, we're backing up the stage and expanding the dance floor, the igloo village and the go-between spaces. More room also means a bigger canvas for designers Mélissa Mongiat and Mouna Andraos, who lack no creativity with their interactive igloo village concept.

The militants can be recognized by their uniforms

The time has come to make a statement. The dazzling Sapporo contest for the most original (kitsch or fluorescent) "one-piece" is back! On top of a prize being awarded for the best outfit each weekend according to the public's vote, this year we will introduce a Grand Prize finalist, determined by a jury of Igloofest members and bloggers from Montreal's fashion scene. Keep in mind that, much like watching an eclipse, this fashion parade is best seen wearing a pair of polarized shades to help reduce the glare!

Two stages for twice the fun

The Igloofest festivities are above all a celebration of the best local and international electronic music. After a first edition last year, the Virgin Mobile Igloo will return to present a program of emerging talent, to be announced in December. Overlooking the main dance floor, the Sapporo stage will feature over thirty artists from here and afar, diligently selected for their distinctive styles.

The renowned rabble-rousers, the to-be-discovered and a mystery guest ...

Among the names often mentioned by our audiences, we are happy to greet the veterans and pioneers such as Tiefschwarz (DE), Terence Fixmer (FR), Green Velvet (US), Sébastien Léger (FR), artists that we've been wooing for years: Ben Klock (DE) and Marcel Dettmann (DE) alongside with our very own Tiga. Come and discover stars in the making, many of whom are on their first visit to Montreal: Maya Jane Coles (GB), Tanner Ross (US), French Fries (FR) and Bambounou (FR). Don't miss a rare visit to our turf by Mala (DMZ) (GB) and get ready for a resolutely different experience with the live performance of the Portuguese group Buraka Som Sistema! Last but not least, set aside a warm welcome to our mystery artist. Thanks to a new international competition organized by our partner, Bench, an artist will be chosen to open the show on the night of the 27th of January.
