Words: Bal En Blanc

Transformed into an immense dancefloor, the rink at the Bell Centre was full to bursting for the 3rd edition of the Resolution event, presented on January 1. The day after New Year’s Eve, the public turned out in great numbers to move to the sounds of Holland’s Tiësto, who gave everything he had to satisfy the roughly 7,000 fans itching to hear him. Visibly in great form, the most popular DJ on the planet offered a 5-hour set shot through with an irresistible energy that from start to finish never wavered. Stimulated by the rhythms and the images projected on a super-size screen behind the stage, the crowd had the time of their lives celebrating the start of the new year – even overflowing, exceptionally, into the first sections of the amphitheatre.

13 solid hours of partying

The evening kicked off in a captivating way with a House mix subtly balanced with vocal titles and electro touches by Blond:Ish duo Vivie-Ann and Anstacia. Intensity levels went up a notch when Toronto’s Adam K took his place on the stage around 11 p.m. and served up more strongly supported rhythms, stirring up a crowd already half-delirious in expectation of headliner Tiësto – who made honorable amends for his unfortunate delay in arriving at the first edition of Resolution in 2007 by taking over the controls at the stroke of 1 a.m. and leading his faithful following on a musical voyage as intense as it was varied. The renowned producer skillfully blended Trance rhythms and more tech or electro titles during his long set, sowing euphoria on the Bell Centre dancefloor. His protégé Craig Pettigrew took over the reins with panache, demonstrating enormous potential and providing a brilliant glimpse into the vitality special to the Toronto scene. Now a sure bet when it comes to winding up an event, Montreal’s Wizz crowned the festivities with a furious set that kept his audience in a Trancelike state until the very last moment.
